Filmed in Supermarionation - coming to a screen near you

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

A few years ago, Stephen La Riviere wrote an excellent book detailing the making of the Supermarionation-era TV shows. The level of detail as well as the newly discovered photos made it a must read for any Anderson fan. It has now been announced that Network Distributing will be releasing a documentary based on the contents of this book.

It will be released August-September of 2014 and promises to include a great many newly discovered gems. In addition, a lot of new material has been filmed which shows how the special effects and puppets were filmed. There are several teaser videos available, and personally, I can't wait to see this.

Today brought an interesting development in the worlds of Gerry Anderson.

A press release was issued by Anderson Entertainment/Jamie Anderson announcing a kickstarter campaign to fund a project where one or more books would be written based on existing work completed by the late Gerry Anderson. His son, Jamie has announced a kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds to employ an author to write a book based on the ideas. The author has been named as MG Harris, author of the popular "Joshua Files" series of books.

More Beyondophonic Action Hour Barry Gray Specials available

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Apparently, the recent Barry Gray 102nd anniversary show for "The Beyondophonic Action Hour" was so popular that they decided to re-run some of the Barry Gray specials from last year. Two specials, in fact.

The first 1 hour show is a special featuring a chronological sequence of the themes and also includes some other interesting tracks.  The MP3 file is here.

The second 1 hour show is a special featuring covers of Barry Gray music. Features some very unusual versions of familiar themes. Quite interesting stuff! The MP3 file is here.

All this great work is brought to you by "Tothar" and is hosted by Luxuriamusic.com. Tell them thanks!

TV Century 21 - now on twitter

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

As Twitter increases in popularity, it only makes sense to include it in the information sharing aspects of TVCentury21. As such, I have created a twitter account for this site. The twitter account of TVCentury21 will include notes when articles are added, plus news events and tidbits as we get them.

New Series of The Prisoner in Production

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive
I know this is somewhat off-topic, but The Prisoner was an ITC series and many Anderson fans are also fans of the 60s cult TV series. For that reason, I wanted to pass on this interesting bit of info. Basically, ITV (UK) and AMC (US) are doing a joint production of a new series of The Prisoner starring Jim Caviziel and Sir Ian McKellen. The show is currently in production in Namibia where they have constructed a "could be anywhere" village made up of architecture from all over the world.

They are currently in week 5 of location shooting. It will be a six-part mini series which will be a "re-imagining" of the original show, which does make me cringe a bit, but I think it will address issues of today in much the same way the original series addressed issues of the late 1960s. Don't know for sure, but it looks like it will hit TV screens about this time next year. AMC has a blog with the production diary and some photos. There are also interesting video clips here. I'm not normally a big fan on 60s remakes (Avengers movie, I'm looking in your direction), but this looks promising. Be seeing you.

TV21 Returns

TV Century 21 the web site returns to the web after a more-weeks-than-I-care-to-think hiatus. As you can see, there is significantly reduced functionality, but I'll be testing and activating the missing parts of the site over the next couple of weeks.
