Today brought an interesting development in the worlds of Gerry Anderson.

A press release was issued by Anderson Entertainment/Jamie Anderson announcing a kickstarter campaign to fund a project where one or more books would be written based on existing work completed by the late Gerry Anderson. He worked on an idea named "Gemini Force One" from 2008 until his passing at the end of 2012.

His son, Jamie has announced a kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds to employ an author to write a book based on the ideas. The author has been named as MG Harris, author of the popular "Joshua Files" series of books.

The kickstarter page includes a great many details, as well as a short introductory video from Jamie Anderson explaining the project.

For those unfamiliar with kickstarter, it is a website where people can add projects and a financial goal. What is nice is that the people looking to raise funds can provide incentives for those who donate at various levels. In the case of the GF1 project, they are offering:

  • For £5,000 - (one only!) they offer the chance to be a main character in any resulting TV show or movie. If you have wanted to be in a Gerry Anderson show, now is your chance!
  • For £3,500 - (one only!) they offer the chance to be named in the resulting book(s).
  • For £2,500- (3 only) they offer a dedication at the front of the book
  • For £1,000 - (5 only) they offer lunch at Pinewood Studios with the author and Jamie Anderson
  • For £500 - (20 only) you will get invited to the launch party and tickets to Andercon in April!

All of these bonuses also include other things like patches, postcards and some other goodies.

There are several other levels also with nice bonuses, so check out the kickstarter page and make a pledge. You know you want to.

AN example of other kickstarter projects would be the one where a new version of the classic video game Elite is being developed.

Assuming the campaign is successful, and the book is successful, the hope is that the book could be made into a TV series or movie.

This is a very interesting idea, as it would potentially allow for more of Gerry Anderson's ideas to see the light of day. However, the campaign needs to raise £24,350 in the next month. They appear to be off to a good start. As I write this, they are just shy of £6,000. Assuming they raise the funds, the book still has to be written and published. I think it will happen, for what its worth.
