News Update May 2006
Several interesting news items to share. UFO is being broadcast in the US in High Definition on the "Family Room" VOOM satellite channel. As the show was not shot in 16:9 aspect ratio, the channel has cropped the top and bottom of the frame! The Corgi Captain Scarlet/New Captain Scarlet cars are now available in the UK. I was sent a link to a short video clip which shows what appears to be a promo/teaser for a 2004 THUNDERBIRDS show. Probably killed due to that wonderful movie. Work the visit: Movie clip. Just one week to the Joe 90 CD release! And issue 2 of SFM magazine is coming out soon!- Details

John Read has died
Sadly, we lose another from the APF years. On April 13th John Read passed away. He was one of the founders of the APF studios. John Read worked on all the shows from Torchy the Battery Boy all the way to Doppleganger/Journey to the Far Side of the Sun. On the various productions he worked as camera operator, lighting cameraman, cinematographer and producer. He also worked on the early live action movie "Crossroads to Crime". In the 1970s he was producer on the popular childrens TV show "Cloppa Castle". Our thoughts go to his family and friends.- Details

SFM magazine returns!
During the 1990s there was a nice little magazine which went by the catchy name of "Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller". It ran for (about) 40-50 issues and covered scale models from TV and movies. Almost every issue containing at least one article related to Gerry Anderson. It was very good, if you see one, check it out. Anyway, after a bit of a hiatus, it appears that the magazine is back again!
This time, instead of coming out every 6-8 weeks, the publication cycle is going to be a bit more conservative, closer to 3 times a year. However, this means that each issue is going to be chock-full of goodies. The first issue was just published and runs 100 pages.
The magazine is full-colour and this first issue includes:
- How to make a supermarionation replica puppet
- Fanderson convention report
- article on a garage kit of Stingray
The magazine can be ordered online from the website at They will ship worldwide and even take Paypal. I'm going to place my order in the next couple of days and then I'll let you know how it is. It is worth noting that this is a limited run, so don't hang about.

So, Where are you, anyway?
Not so much a news piece, as a bit of fun. I set up an account on Frappr for all TV21 visitors to mark where you reside. It should be a very interesting experiment, as I suspect we are all over the world. All you need to do is go to this page and indicate where you live. It does not go down to the street level, you just specify the nearest town. Should be very interesting to watch it grow!- Details

New Captain Scarlet is Gone!
Less than a year after the debut of the "New Captain Scarlet" TV show in the UK, the official website has gone away. Apparently, as the show is no longer on in the UK, the site no longer needs to exist. I think the logic is a bit flawed, as there is still significant amount of merchandising available in the UK for the Christmas season.- Details

Photos from Convention
A ton of photos have been placed into the TV21 gallery (see left). This is mostly the items on display at the exhibitition, but also includes some shots of the replica FAB1.As I did not attend the event, I cannot post any further news on the event. Full details on the convention can be found on the Fanderson site.

Product Enterprise Supermarionation vehicles
The company Product Enterprise has been quietly releasing superb large die-cast replicas of vehicles from the Anderson shows over the last year. They started with vehicles from Space:1999 and then recently released a set of vehicles from UFO including the Mobile. Finally (at least in my mind) they get to the really interesting stuff. By the end of October, they will have available, a Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray and SPV vehicle. Each one is between 170-240mm long (6-9" approx). The Supercar is also available in a "black and white" edition. Each vehicle is priced at £39.99
They also offer a high end range of larger vehicles based on Thunderbirds priced at £299.99. For the fan who has (almost) everything. God help me if they make a high end SPV...
