New Captain Scarlet

Gerry Anderson Auction Feb 7 2009

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Gerry Anderson is moving out of his office and back home while he works on new projects. As he is moving out, he no longer has room for the items in his office and so he is selling them. Much of it is of interest to collectors so there will be an auction next week, Feb 7 2009 in Battersea, South London. It is being organised by Comet Miniatures. Much of the auction consists of content from the New Captain Scarlet show as well as recent projects. Not much "classic" Anderson items, except some toys. There is an interesting set of Dinky Blueprints which will probably generate some interest. For full details and a complete list of items, check out this auction page: http://www.comet-miniatures.com/news_auction.php

Captain Scarlet website, once dead, now alive - Is this the work of the Mysterons?

NCS logoThe website for New Captain Scarlet has come back online after several months of inactivity. This is probably due to broadcast repeats in the UK as well as broadcast again on Animania HD in the US. The site is all Flash so you must have the plugin to see it. Its all about the new series. No apparent mention of the original series.

New Captain Scarlet series 2 DVD in September

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive
ImageFINALLY. The "second series" of New Captain Scarlet will be released in the UK on September 18th. This will consist of the final(?) 13 episodes of the show. The first 13 episodes were released some time back and it certainly has been a long time coming. The new set sells for £30 but for those wise enough to hold off on buying the first series will really reap the benefit as they can get both series for only £35. Way to stick it to the fans. Either way you look at it, its a great show and well worth picking up. You can pre-order the series 2 DVD from Amazon UK for only £22.49.

New Captain Scarlet is Gone!

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive
Less than a year after the debut of the "New Captain Scarlet" TV show in the UK, the official website has gone away. Apparently, as the show is no longer on in the UK, the site no longer needs to exist. I think the logic is a bit flawed, as there is still  significant amount of merchandising available in the UK for the Christmas season.

This also signals that there is no chance of additional episodes, plus the likelihood of the show airing outside of the UK is also diminished. A lot of effort and money went into the show, but it seems that once it was delivered, it did not get the level of attention it deserved. I saw practically no coverage in the TV Zone/Starburst magazines, but plenty of coverage of Dr Who. If I was an investor, I would not be happy. What an ignoble end to a great show that died on the vine. I guess the comic is next.

Captain Scarlet series 2 airs Sept 3

The "second" season of the New Captain Scarlet TV series starts airing in the UK on Sept 3. Lucky buggers. Leading up to this, the "first" series has been airing as a warm up. There are a number of fairly high-profile publicity events taking place to promote the new series. Gerry Anderson did a 30 minute radio interview with the BBC last week. You can listen to it on the BBC site here.

In addition, Gerry will be at Forbidden Planet doing some autographs and Hamleys will be carrying the new range of toys from Bandai.

All this, and no word of broadcast or other releases outside the UK...

Captain Scarlet CGI to air in February!

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Image In a move that surprised everyone, it was announced that the new "Captain Scarlet" CGI series from Gerry Anderson is to commence broadcasting in the UK on February 12 2005. It was generally thought that the show would air during the autumn of 2005, so is a pleasant surprise indeed. The announcement was made at the London World Toy Fair on January 27th 2005. The first series will consist of 26 episodes, of which the first 13 are complete, so this initial run will just be a preview for the show, which will be repeated in September along with the final 13 episodes. The show will air on ITV as part of their "MOM" programme. A detailed report on this as well as details of merchandise announcements at the fair will appear here in a few days.

TriMedia Entertainment Group and Gerry Anderson Productions plc have signed a deal which allows for US distribution of the new Captain Scarlet CGI series. I suppose we ought to start calling it "Captain Scarlet - The Return of the Mysterons". Full press release below.
