Stingray gatefold Laserdiscs

This review is on the two out of print and rare gatefold volumes of Stingray manufactured by Tohokushinsha Home Video on the Emotion label and presented by the Bandai company. Stingray was partially released in these 2 individually Arabic numbered gatefold sets containing 2 bilingual discs per gatefold set. These are CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) and contain approximately one hour/2 episodes per side. The first 4 letters of the catalog numbers - BELL is the acronym for Bandai Emotion Linear Laserdisc meaning CLV discs.

Thunderbirds Laserdiscs

In 1992 the Japanese company "Emotion" released all 32 Thunderbirds episodes on 16 laserdiscs. These discs have been recorded for the NTSC television system that is the standard for Japanese and American tv broadcasts. This makes these discs unsuitable for the European and Australian markets where PAL is the tv standard. However, an increasing number of so-called NTSC-playback videorecorders and laserdisc players are offered on the market that allow the PAL audience to join in with the NTSC viewers.

I am but one of numerous collectors of various shows on laserdisc. I decided to write up this review since I had not seen one on the re-issue Bandai Emotion boxes. This review is on the four out of print and rare box sets of UFO manufactured by Tohokushinsha Home Video on the Emotion label and presented by the Bandai company.

Space:1999 Season 1 Laserdisc Box Sets

This review is on the first season of Space 1999 released in 4 individual box sets containing 3 discs each. These discs all utilize the right audio channel for the English soundtrack and the left track is used for the Japanese soundtrack. This is the same as used in the Captain Scarlet and UFO Bandai/Emotion laserdiscs and results in there being no need for subtitles. Note that Space: 1999 was originally recorded in mono anyway, so no sound is lost in the process.
