The "second" season of the New Captain Scarlet TV series starts airing in the UK on Sept 3. Lucky buggers. Leading up to this, the "first" series has been airing as a warm up. There are a number of fairly high-profile publicity events taking place to promote the new series. Gerry Anderson did a 30 minute radio interview with the BBC last week. You can listen to it on the BBC site here.
In addition, Gerry will be at Forbidden Planet doing some autographs and Hamleys will be carrying the new range of toys from Bandai.
All this, and no word of broadcast or other releases outside the UK...
This is basically a good news/bad news posting. The good news is that I have finally been able to get the TV Century 21 site updates newsletter active again. The bad news is that despite many hours of effort, I have been unable to ressurect the original subscriber list. Consequently, we have to start again from scratch. So, if you were subscribed to the TV 21 updates email list, you will need to subscribe again, sorry about that. If you were not subscribed, the TV Century 21 site updates email list is a service I provide to send out emails whenever a new post has been added. If there is interest, I may break it down a bit more, so that we have lists related to interests such as general news, downloads, gallery etc.
If you want to subscribe, simply add your email to the "TV21 Site Update" form to the left, make sure "SUBSCRIBE" is selected and click the PROCEED button. You will receive a confirmation email, which contains a link to click on to verify that you really want to subscribe. IMPORTANT Until you click on this link to verify your request to subscribe, you will not be subscribed!
The emails will probably go out 2-3 times a month at most and each will include details on how to unsubscribe. Just my way of making it slightly easier to use the site.
Hi again. The forum and downloads area have been updated. The forum now includes "personal messaging" and the downloads has been fixed so all dud downloads actually work. Images have been added where available. I'm going to put back many of the other popular files, but if there is one you are missing let me know and I'll add it. The Personal Messaging functionality allows you to send a message to any other member of the site. It only works when you are logged in, but you will see a box on the left of the main page showing if you have messages. Click on the link to send messages to others. Play nice, kids! I'll be adding back a classified ads section soon, adding another reason to use PM.
The downloads area has been expanded to include a complete set of Supermarionation-era fonts, TV Century 21.com desktops and even a set of icons.
In a grim co-incidence, two of the main actors from the UFO TV series have passed away within days of each other. Mike Billington passed away on monday and Ed Bishop passed away on wednesday.
Not much is known about the circumstances, but it will certainly come as a shock to fans of UFO and Captain Scarlet, where Ed Bishop voiced Captain Blue.
The Fanderson site has a detailed report on these events as well as more of the history for both actors. Both actors were scheduled to appear at the convention this autumn. We offer sincere condolences to their families.
Finally after oh-so-many years, some of the early shows from Gerry Anderson are finally available on DVD in the UK. Torchy the Battery Boy and Four Feather Falls are both available with all episodes. Sadly, The Adventures of Twizzle has few remaining episodes, so a DVD release is unlikely.
The company doing the release, Network, is also re-issuing Supercar on DVD. Network has a reputation for doing superb DVD releases, so all of these should contain plenty of goodies and hopefully the Supercar DVD even contains something new.
The live action 1972 series "The Protectors" is finally out on DVD in the US. The DVD set consists of 4 discs with all 26 episodes from the first season. Not a lot of extras, but there is a photo gallery and a commentary for one episode.
The Protectors season 1 DVD set is available at Amazon for about $72. Something to tide us over until the Four Feather Falls DVD comes out later this year...
