New Captain Scarlet Series 3? Not likely

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

I get several emails a week asking if I know anything about a series 3 of New Captain Scarlet. After attending the Fanderson event in October (yes, I will be posting my review and hundreds of photos soon) I came to the understanding that there will not be a new series.

Why? Well, in the UK, the broadcast was handled in a terrible manner which pretty much guaranteed it to get low ratings. It was broadcast in the middle of a live kids TV show which is (by all reports) really irritating to watch. Not only that, but at least the first ones started and ended with no warning and the episodes were cut into 2 sections with no indication of when the next part was to be aired. It was hard even for die-hard fans to watch, let alone people who had not seen the show.

New Captain Scarlet merchandising

OK, I admit I'm in the US, but I'm a Brit to the end. I make no excuses, I'm a fan of shows that few people outside of the UK watch. Now it seems that despite a HUGE budget and fund raising and Gerry Anderson actually producing a decent show, its not really getting the respect it deserves. I'm really not sure what is going on here, and I'll save my opinions for a later time, but at least there are some interesting merchandising items available. In the UK.

Fans of the astonishingly successful Thunderbirds comic (aimed at the VERY young fans and still going strong at issue 90) is going to start publishing a comic based on the New Captain Scarlet show. The first issue should be available mid-october. Copy of the ad can be seen in the GALLERY.

Bandai's range of toys is now available in the shops. For details on the range, see the earlier news item. Sadly, FEVA has dropped plans to release their own range of toys.

A more detailed list of merchandise can be found after clicking the "READ MORE" link below

As part of the promotion for the show in February 2005, presspacks included a brief episode guide to the 26 episodes of season one, character profiles as well as equipment profiles. This article contains the episode summaries of the episodes from season one.

Interestingly, the episodes are not in the same sequence as they are being transmitted in the UK.  I can understand episodes get reshuffled when they take 10 days to film, but thse have been completed for a while now.
