SFM magazine returns!

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

During the 1990s there was a nice little magazine which went by the catchy name of "Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller". It ran for (about) 40-50 issues and covered scale models from TV and movies. Almost every issue containing at least one article related to Gerry Anderson. It was very good, if you see one, check it out. Anyway, after a bit of a hiatus, it appears that the magazine is back again!

This time, instead of coming out every 6-8 weeks, the publication cycle is going to be a bit more conservative, closer to 3 times a year. However, this means that each issue is going to be chock-full of goodies. The first issue was just published and runs 100 pages.

The magazine is full-colour and this first issue includes:

  • How to make a supermarionation replica puppet
  • Fanderson convention report
  • article on a garage kit of Stingray

The magazine can be ordered online from the website at They will ship worldwide and even take Paypal. I'm going to place my order in the next couple of days and then I'll let you know how it is. It is worth noting that this is a limited run, so don't hang about.

UPDATED Japanese toy company Bandai will be releasing a large range of toys based on the "New Captain Scarlet" TV series currently airing in the UK. The range will include both small and large vehicles as well as figures. Two small vehicle sets of 3 item will be available, as well as larger vehicles of the Rhino, Stallion bike, Hummingbird helicopter and Cheetah car. There will also be a large SkyBase toy which will work with the smaller vehicles which will include cars and aircraft. The figures will be of Captain Scarlet, Black, Blue, as well as Colonel White and Destiny Angel. Figures will be 12.5cm tall and sell for 5 each.

Photos of the complete range of new toys from Bandai can be found in the Photo Gallery.

The Skybase toy (40) features light and sounds from the show as well as a repair area. It comes with an Angel fighter plane. There will be 2 small (8cm) vehicle sets and will sell for 10 per set. One set will include the Angel, another figter and a truck, while the other set will include the Cheetah, humminbird and passenger jet. There are some larger vehicles in the DX (deluxe) range, with the Stallion Bike and Hummingbird Helicopter, each 15, a Rhino for 25 which fires missils, and a Cheetah car with opening door. Both the Cheetah and the Rhino feature sounds and all 4 DX vehicles are the same scale as the figures. The Cheetah activates different phrases depending on which character you place into it. Cool. Lastly, an "actual size" item is the communicator which looks like a bit like a cell phone and sells for 13. All items should be available in the UK some time in August.
