CENTURY 21 RECORDS
The Toys you hear!
Teenagers and adults form the majority section of the record- buying public as it stands today, but the latest figures show a marked increase in the sales of records to children under 14 since September 1965. A great deal of this boost of sales in the children's record field has been due to the launching of Century 21 Records just over a year ago.
The initial releases featured music and stories with dramatic sound effects from the properties of A P. Films such as Fireball XL5, Stingray and Thunderbirds. Now the series has been extended to include other popular television characters such as Topo Gigio and Tingha and Tucker. More additions will follow throughout 1967.
A recent survey shows that at the present time, the children's market accounts for some 5 per cent of record sales and this is estimated to reach 20 per cent by 1968 !
A vast proportion of these sales could well go through the toy trade as they deal directly with a much larger percentage of child customers than the normal record retailer could ever hope to attract. In fact sales have shown, during this first year, that the most successful outlets are those which have both toy and record departments under one roof, such as W. H. Smith and Sons, Boots, etc.
Properly displayed, and point-of sale material is readily available, Century 21 Records could well be one of the biggest " toy " sellers of the future. Not only will the records sell themselves but they will attract additional business for the more usual toy items based on the characters featured on the records.
Century 21 Records are presented in highly colourful and attractive sleeves with regular new releases throughout the year. Current retail prices are 8s. for the 7in. 33 r.p.m. Mini-Albums and 14s. 11d. for the larger 12in. Super 33s.
