Barry Gray

  • Barry Gray - a discography

This is a relatively complete listing of all commercially available recordings of Barry Gray's music. The first table contains original recordings, and the second contains a list of reasonable attempts to emulate the music.

  • Barry Gray Centenary Concert tickets available

Tickets for the much anticipated Barry Gray Centenary Concert are now available. The event will be held in London at the Royal Festival Hall on Saturday, 8th November 2008. Guest of honour will be Gerry Anderson, ably assisted by the ever low-key Brian Blessed who will compere the event. Full details are in the complete press release, after the jump.

  • Barry Gray compilation CD available May 4 2009

SBFA-CDSilva Screen in the UK will be releasing "Stand By For Action" the week of May 4. This compilation of Barry Gray tunes from the Gerry Anderson shows was originally intended for release around the time of the live concert in London last year. The 40 track compilation is fairly extensive, and does contain some rare tracks, but much of it will be familiar if the you have the other Barry Gray CDs released over the years. Rarities include tracks from UFO and Secret Service as well as alternate versions of music. For me, the cover makes the purchase worth it, and I would seriously consider buying a vinyl version if one became available, as it is very evocative of the 60s LPs.

For those who don't care for CDs, the album is also available as downloadable MP3 files. Prices on CD and MP3 versions are reasonable: £7.99 for MP3 and £9.99 for CDs.

Read More (below) for further details of this release.

It will certainly be a major event for Anderson fans.

  • Barry Gray: Music with strings

Twizzle first introduced Barry Gray to Gerry Anderson, and it was a history-making meeting. Twizzle was a character created by author Roberta Leigh, who was trying to interest producer Anderson in making a series or a film with Twizzle. Barry Gray was the composer who eventually brought Twizzle, and countless other characters, to life through his distinctive musical style. From an early age, Barry Gray received a sound musical education in Lancashire, where he was born and where his first teacher remarked of his notating and arranging abilities, "This young lad takes to manuscript paper like a duck takes to water! ".

  • Interview with Ralph Titterton and Tim Mallett - Barry Gray Music Restoration

When the Joe 90 CD was released in 2006, I conducted an interview with Ralph Titterton and Tim Mallet, the men behind the release of this Barry Gray CD and all the earlier official Barry Gray CDs.

Ralph has in his possession the entire Barry Gray music library on analog tapes. Tim Mallett is the audio technician who worked with Ralph to clean up the tapes, re-mix them and create new audio masters suitable for production of the CDs.

This exclusive interview provides a great deal of information about the music source and level of effort that went into the production of the CDs.
