This is the text from a funding update for the Captain Scarlet CGI show currently in pre-production in Pinewood. They are seeking additional funds. For further details, check out the Captain Scarlet CGI shares page. This was provided by Margetts.

Margetts are delighted to inform you of the progress which has been made over the past few weeks by the Gerry Anderson Productions plc team who are creating the new series of Captain Scarlet.

An agreement has been reached for a new facility to be established at Pinewood Studios to conduct the work relating to the computer animation. This will be the first time that a Pinewood Studios production has had the animation team based on site and offers considerable advantages to the production team who will be able to monitor this work in real time.

This new facility will be established and operated by two well respected animation companies which are Double Negative and Passion Pictures. This is considered to be an excellent combination as Double Negative specialise in action sequences whilst Passion Pictures have a strong reputation for bringing characters to life. Please see below for further information on the calibre of these two companies

The Mysterons have struck unexpectedly early at the recent LIA Annual Conference Dinner held at the Metropole Hotel in London. Pictures of Captain Scarlet were found under the plate settings and nobody has so far claimed responsibility so we advise you to be vigilant!

We are continuing to accept applications for this tax year and on the basis of the current high levels of interest and commitment we expect to complete the full funding by the close of subscriptions. There have been a number of key meetings with major broadcasters and distributors and we look forward to updating you on this in the coming weeks. Press interest continues unabated and last week we featured on the back page of the business section of the Sunday Times.

Double Negative

Double Negative are regarded as leaders in action animation sequences. This is clearly underlined by the high profile productions that they have worked on which include Die Another Day (the recent James Bond film), Bridget Jones Diary, Billy Elliot, Mission Impossible 2 starring Tom Cruise and Pitch Black starring Vin Diesel. They are currently working on Tomb Raider 2 – Lara Croft and the Cradle of Life.

Formed in 1998, Double Negative was described by The Independent on Sunday as “one of Britain’s youngest and brightest visual effects companies.”

Other productions which they have worked on include The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Johnny English, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and Nutty Professor 2.

Passion Pictures

The work of Passion Pictures will be known to everyone who watched the exciting World Cup coverage on television during 2002, which reached fever pitch as the English team lost against Brazil. Passion Pictures created the animation sequences which were extensively used during the televised coverage. This work was recognised within the animation industry and was awarded three gold awards at the prestigious Promax event.

The company won an Academy Award and an Emmy award for its first feature length documentary One Day in September (1999) which depicted the tragic story of the eleven Israeli athletes who died at the 1972 Munich Olympics. It received an Academy Award for Best Feature Length Documentary and in September 2001 an Emmy Award for Best Historical Documentary.

Passion Pictures is a world leader in character animation. Andrew Ruhemann is the founder of the company and was originally trained on the ground-breaking smash hit feature film Who Framed Roger Rabbit? starring Bob Hoskins.

Passion Pictures made the first ever animated commercial for the Levi’s brand, followed by the chilling portrayal of a child’s suffering in the NSPCC ‘cartoon’ commercial which won the Golden Lion at the Cannes Advertising Festival for Fundraising and Appeals in 2002 and Best Commercial of the Year at BTAA.

The work of Passion Pictures is currently being broadcast on BBC1 on Friday evenings. The Polarbear Sequence which features in each show of Lenny Henry’s current series was animated by them and has been commended for its technical brilliance in creating realistic fur!
