October 2004 sees the release of Team America - World Police from the makers of the TV show "South Park". I mention this because the movie is made with Thunderbirds-style puppets. The makers of this movie did it in part as a reaction to the as-then pending Thunderbirds movie.

There were several interviews with Matt and Trey where they said they were fans of Thunderbirds and considered the direction that the movie was taking to be ludicrous. You may or may not care for South Park and I suspect fewer people care for their other efforts, but at least their hearts are in the right place.

You can see the trailer at the Team America website. I guess in a way it represents the other side of the Thunderbirds movie possibilities. On the one side we have a big budget "live action" movie with appalling plotlines and on the other we have a no budget movie featuring puppets as the cast. No clue as to the plot, but if it involves a rescue, that would be a nice start.
