Barry Gray bequeathed to generations of TV viewers a creative legacy whose technical brilliance and inspiring creative sweep has become an enduring and integral part of our popular culture. From the child-like innocence of The Adventures of Twizzle and Torchy the Battery Boy to the epic excitement of Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, UFO and Space: 1999 Year One, the musical ability of Barry Gray has subtly enriched the history of both the entertainment media, and our own personal recollections.
The one element that links all these programmes is one of Britain’s, and indeed the world’s most famous television producers; Gerry Anderson. Over a period of eighteen years Barry Gray scored music for a total of twelve of his television series, and four feature films.
Barry Gray (1908 – 1984) had a long and varied musical career that spans his whole life; however it is his scoring for the television series and films of British Producer Gerry Anderson that he will always be known.
Television Series: The Adventures of Twizzle, Torchy the Battery Boy, Four Feather Falls, Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons, Joe 90, The Secret Service, UFO and Space: 1999 Year One.
Films: Crossroads to Crime, Thunderbirds are GO!, Thunderbird 6 and Doppelganger (aka: Journey to the Far side of the Sun).
Ralph Titterton, and his long time partner Catherine Ford, have been associated with the music of Barry Gray since the early 1990’s when they took on the mammoth task of restoring the Gray music archive. Out of that work a whole series of soundtrack CD’s have been produced worldwide for both the fan and commercial markets.
In 2008 they were joined by film composer Francois Evans to produce the BARRY GRAY CENTENARY CONCERT at London’s Royal Festival Hall with The Philharmonia Orchestra, and compere Brian Blessed, to great acclaim. GRAY LADY PRODUCTIONS LTD was formed by Ralph, Catherine and Francois to handle the business side of the event. Ralph produced the Concert, Francois acted as Music Director and conductor, and Catherine oversaw Finance and all elements of related Research.
With the concert over, Gray Lady Productions Ltd was continued to promote the work of Barry Gray through use of his music in both the audio and written form. For example, do you need a Barry Gray score (s) for your music event, or indeed do you want to stage the whole Barry Gray Concert at your venue? Full details as to how you can use the music on an event by event basis, subject to negotiated contract, can be found on the Services page on this website.
