A brand new CD of music by Barry Gray will be coming out later this year. Details are sketchy, but the title of the CD is "Stand By for Adverts". It is "Barry Gray as you have never heard him before". Presumably, this is a collection of music created for adverts on TV/radio.
Additional text on the Barry Gray site includes this quote of text from the sleeve:
"Barry Gray is a composer best known for his scores for Gerry Anderson productions: Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 and UFO are just some of the classic series he scored for TV.
Yet throughout most of the time he was working on these, and whilst engaged as Vera Lynn’s accompanist-arranger, this versatile and prolific music man turned his hand, and composing pen, to the world of advertising. Here for the first time ever, we present over 80 unreleased jingles, tests, cues, experimental music and ditties for commercials both large and small. From giant oil company promos to tiny local shop adverts, these cues demonstrate not only Barry Gray's adventurous composing styles but also his canny knack with lyrics and the fine art of selling. They also offer up an extraordinary sound of more innocent days and a whole bunch of catchy bits you won't ever be able to stop singing."
Ralph Titterton states, "We have always known about the many audio reels of commercials amongst all the Gerry Anderson material, however the question has always been, what to do with them? About a year ago I was introduced to a gentleman called Jonny Trunk who has his own record label, Trunk Records. He produces quite quirky, off-the-wall CD titles, but has a strong following for his releases. He had produced a CD called "Music for Biscuits", which was a bringing together all the commercials work of a small vocal band called, "The Mike Sammes Singers"; a popular group during the 1960's. Indeed, Barry had used them on the titles of Supercar, Stingray and The Secret Service. It seemed ideal then that this could become the home of all of Barry's commercial work, and the end result is "Stand By For Adverts"."
As ever, we'll post updated news here when we get it.
