UK – Day 9: A Day in the Country
I awoke to tap-tapping on the door. it was Simon, with a nice cup of tea. The window was covered in condensation but I could see the sun was just up over the horizon. The time? about 9am. Yes, we are that far north, plus winter solstice is tomorrow.
Despite the cold and the frost on the ground, I went outside and took some photos of the grounds. There was frost on the grass and occasionally, you could hear a crack from the firing range a few miles away. Mostly fields and some trees here, but sound carries a long way in Suffolk. After that, I came in and I had a lovely breakfast as prepared by Simon consisting of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Very fancy. The Arga in the kitchen kept it nice and warm. I almost put an Arga in a house I built a few years ago. They run 24 hours a day and keep the house warm. Helpful in Suffolk, but not really needed in Arizona.
After breakfast we sat around chatting for several hours. We watched some videos on YouTube and went through a script I wrote a few years ago. We went through it and gave me some feedback before we had to head out.
We drove to Southwold and went to the pier again, where (oddly) again I had fish and chips again. It was good, again. It was nice to see the sea this time though and Southwold is a charming little town. The wind was strong and the waves crashed against the shore as the sun went down. After dinner, I popped into the Adnams brewery shop and was amazed by how much stuff they have. Plates, mugs, jugs, you name it. And it was packed, probably because of Christmas. After my brief visit to Adnams, they dropped me off at the Harry Potter railway station and before I knew it, I was on my way to Angmering (pronounced “ann-er-ing”) via Ipswich, Liverpool Street station, circle line tube and Victoria station. Unlike the journey yesterday, it was packed the whole way. I guess a lot of people had read this blog and wanted to join in the fun. Or something like that.
Finally, 5 hours later, I got home and mum treated me to a nice cheese and ham sandwich. Despite spending half my day sitting on my arse in a train, I was exhausted. But I’m glad i went and I can’t wait to see Simon and Jasmine again. Thanks guys, I had a lot of fun!
